Japan Overseas Ports Cooperation Association (JOPCA) held a seminar “Philippine － Japan Ports Development and Management Seminar 2011” on January 28 ^th, 2011 at the Diamond Hotel, with the cooperation of JICA Expert Mr. Takashi Shimada in Manila. The seminar program can be found on the table.

Before starting the seminar, “JICA Alumni Association for Port Sector in the Philippines (JAAPP)” was established. Purpose of the Association is to provide a contact point to facilitate information exchange, mutual understanding and mutual cooperation.  Mr. George D. Esguerrra, Assistant Secretary for Planning, Department of Transportation and Communications, was nominated as Representative for the Philippine side   and Mr. Yukio Nishida, President of JOPCA, for the Japanese side. Office and mailing addresses, etc. of the Association members were revised. The Association will work actively from now on.

Keynote lecture by Prof. T. Ikeda, lectures by Mr. H. Horikawa, Engr. R. T. Mascarina, and Mr. T. Shimada were all interesting and useful. A video presentation was also of interest to Philippine engineers. More than 45 people including 20 alumni of JICA Training Courses participated in the seminar (see photograph).
